To transition from February to March this week we read the book “The Rainbow Fish” and also made a craft to go with it. This story is about friendship which went with our our theme for February. Going into March we are going to be learning about the colours of the rainbow. Our Rainbow Fish that we made are hanging up on the bulletin board in the hallway.
We read “Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes” because it emphasizes colours and we also used this story to discuss the size of a problem. This story is great for discussing the small problems we encounter and how we react to them. It also promotes our early literacy skills through the use of repetitive text. “Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons” is also great for discussing the size of a problem.
Our sensory bin for the month of March is based on the colours of the rainbow and students have to use clothes pins and others tools that allow them to develop their pencil grasp to match coloured items such as shapes and pom poms to the correct colour of the rainbow.
