R is for Rubber Boots and Rain

Although the beginning of the week brought more winter weather, we learned about the spring weather we hope to enjoy this weekend and next week.  We also discussed what we have to wear in the springtime.  We read the story “Caps, Hats, Socks and Mittens: A Book About the Four Seasons” to learn about we wear in the different seasons and the activities we do in the different seasons.  This book is also great for discussing opposites- outside/inside, up/down, on/off, etc.  There are also many rhyming words in this story.  Story time is such an important part of our day to build on our early literacy skills!

To go with our theme this week, we made a rubber boot craft by decorating a rubber boot and then covering it in mud and we also made an umbrella craft.  We sang alphabet songs and paid special attention to the letter R and the sound that the letter R makes.  Another song we have been singing is “How’s the Weather?”.  Encourage your child to sing the song and then tell you what the weather is like.
