Butterflies and outdoor fun

After learning about “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” two weeks ago, we followed that up with butterfly stories and a craft this week.  We made beautiful coffee filter butterflies that are being displayed in our classroom.  We read “Waiting for Wings” which is a great story about how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly.

We also participated in a colour scavenger hunt outside.  We each got a paper bag that had the colours brown, yellow, orange, green, black, grey and red coloured on it.  We had to find something from nature to match each colour.  We set off in groups and worked together to accomplish this!  After we completed our scavenger hunt we brought our bags in the classroom to share what we had found.  We then dumped out our findings onto a table so everyone could see.

With camping season now upon us, we have a campsite in our classroom as our dramatic play center.  We have a tent, a campfire, a pond and a camp stove.  Students are developing their language and communication, turn taking and cooperative play skills through this center.
