With the first week of full classes we were able to focus on settling into our Pre-K routines and making new friendships. We continued with our Pete the Cat theme and read two Pete the Cat books this week. We read “Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes” and “Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons”. Both of these stories reinforce the social skills teaching we are doing in Pre-K. We also read a story called “No, David!” and used this opportunity to talk about expected and unexpected behaviour in the classroom. Examples of expected behaviour include sitting criss cross at the carpet, showing our listening skills, etc. Examples of unexpected behaviour include running in the hallway/classroom, yelling in the classroom, etc.
We also did a Pete the Cat craft that will be displayed on our classroom bulletin in the hallway. We made a cat’s body with our handprint and then finger painted his shoes on. We then glued on his head and added the details of eyes, a nose, whiskers, etc. Make sure to have your child show you their Pete the Cat when you are dropping off/picking up next week!
We were lucky to be able to get outside to play on the playground on both Wednesday and Thursday- everyone had so much fun! As a reminder, please make sure to send your child dressed for the weather as we will be getting outside to play as often as we can!
