After such a cold week last week it was so nice to have everyone back and enjoy fun Valentine’s activities. Our question of the week reflected the weather we have been experiencing. It was: “Are you still enjoying winter or are you ready for spring?” When we counted and compared, more students were ready for spring than still enjoying winter, although it was pretty close!
Early this week we were able to start some friendship activities and will continue with this theme for the rest of the month. We made friendship trees with each student’s hand and different colours and sizes of hearts. This was another great opportunity to review big, medium and small. Our friendship trees are on display in our classroom. We also made Valentine’s for our parents and sent these home.
On Wednesday and Thursday we had so much fun celebrating Valentine’s Day in Pre-K! Thank you to all the parents who sent in fruit so that we could make a friendship, fruit salad. Everyone enjoyed getting to help prepare it and then eating it altogether. We also enjoyed decorating sugar cookies (thanks Miss Starla), playing Valentine’s BINGO and decorating our Valentine’s bags.
We will be continuing with our kindness theme for the month of February. Our dramatic play center has changed to a post office and we have enjoyed mailing Valentine’s. You can read the story “Clifford’s First Valentine’s Day”with your child to discuss the post office in the story. This month we also will be singing a fun, new song about Valentine’s Day. This song is sang to the tune of “BINGO” and lets us work on our letter recognition skills in a fun way.
Here is a poem we have been learning this week:
5 Little Hearts
5 little hearts all in a row.
The first one said, “I love you so.”
The second one said, “Will you be my Valentine?”
The third one said, “I will if you’ll be mine.”
The fourth one said, “I’ll always be your friend.”
The fifth one said, “We’ll all be friends until the very end.”
