I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving long weekend! We had fun last week continuing to discuss and read stories about what we were thankful for as well as creating turkeys that we took home.
This week we have begun learning all about pumpkins. We read a fun story called “The legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin” and used our scissor skills to create our very own Spookley the Square Pumpkin. Everyone did such a great job of snipping strips of paper to make orange squares for their pumpkin. Make sure to check them out on the hallway bulletin board!
We have also begun discussing different emotions and will continue with that next week. A song we have been singing to start our social emotional learning is called “Can You Make a Happy Face?” Show your child the song below and have them make all of the different faces. Next week we will be talking about when we feel these different emotions and that it is okay to have different feelings.
We also will be saying a poem “5 Little Pumpkins” for the rest of the month. Try saying it with your child and have them show you the actions!
In Pre-K we get to have free play everyday! Although it may appear like we are “just playing” we are working on many different skills through our free play. We are collaborating with our friends, turn taking and problem solving through play opportunities such as blocks and sand. We are developing language and communication skills through play centers such as the kitchen. We are also developing fine motor skills through play centers such as playdoh , art and toys like Mr. Potato Head. Check out some of our play opportunities from this week!
- Due to the continued delay of Fresh Grade Next, we have decided to use the classic Fresh Grade app for this year. You should have received an email invitation to view your child’s portfolio where I have begun posting pictures. If you have not received this email, please first check your junk mail and then let me know if you still do not see it!
- Scholastic Book orders are due Oct. 24th (M/W class you will get them on Monday!)
- For Halloween this year we will be having fun activities in our classroom on Wednesday, October 30th for the M/W Class and Thursday, October 31st for the T/TH Class, but Pre-K students do not wear costumes to school. We will be doing Halloween themed activities such as face painting, crafts, stories, songs and games, but will be keeping the activities relatively low key. We would be happy to have two parents from each class bring a special snack. If you would like to send a special snack for the class, there is a sign up sheet outside of the door.
See you next week!
